Reasons for Moving from California to Arizona

If you’re looking to change it up but don’t want to leave the sun, then moving to Arizona may be exactly what you’re looking for! From beautiful nature to the arts to a wide variety of sporting events, there is no shortage of things to do in Arizona. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the cost of living in Arizona is a fraction of that in California, as well.

According to CBRE Group Inc. research, an average of over 52,000 people moved to Arizona from California between 2006 and 2018. Behind only Texas, Arizona is the state with the second most people relocating from California.

With a median home price of $279,650 in Arizona compared to $670,200 in California for the same sized house, it’s no wonder so many Californians are moving to Arizona.

A Look at Some of the Best Cities in Arizona:

Phoenix: It would be hard not to mention the capital of Arizona. With a population of 1.6 million, the city comes in at the fifth biggest city in all of the United States. With groups such as Ballet Arizona and the Arizona Opera Company operating out of Pheonix, there is no shortage of art to be found.

Interested in sports? Phoenix is home to a team in every major professional sports league in the United States. On top of that, you get to see every MLB team play when Spring Training comes every year to Pheonix.

Scottsdale: Like the Wild West? Can’t live without a modern downtown area? Then Scottsdale is the city for you. Scottsdale has a Wild West history and embraces it. You’ll be happy to see that the downtown and shopping areas are upscale and modern.

Strawberry: Arizona has beautiful nature, and if that’s your bag, then you’ll want to find yourself in Strawberry. It’s hard to beat experiencing Ponderosa Pines or walking across Tonto Natural Bridge.

Paradise Valley: The name is not deceiving! With upscale restaurants and golf courses all looking up at the mountains found on the Pheonix Mountain Preserve, you’ll be able to find your paradise here.

Planning a Move to Arizona

The most obvious aspect of this change is the heat, and it’s no exaggeration. In the summer it will regularly hit 100 degrees, so plan around that! Unless you’re moving to a location in the mountains, it might be time to cut back on all those sweaters.

While many parts of California are dense enough to hold a variety of good public transportation options, Arizona is quite a bit more spread out. While there are some public transportation options to look into, especially in Pheonix, it might be time to look into getting your own vehicle, if you don’t have one.

If you’re planning on using a moving company, which is especially helpful for a long move, be sure to do research on them and find out that they have the proper certification. Interstate moving is regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

You can search the federal mover database to find out more info about a moving company including the location of their headquarters, complaint information, and safety information. The data for Pink Transfer shows that no complaints have been filed against the company over the last four years.

It’s completely understandable if you have any questions about this process. If you do, just give us a call and a Pink Transfer moving coordinator will walk you through the process. Don’t feel like talking to anyone? That’s fine, just check out our Buyer’s Guide for Household Moves for frequently asked questions and definitions of moving terms.
